Writing ProcessWe will use the following writing process as we write each type of writing piece. We will also implement the use of a scoring guide (rubric). This will guide our writing and will be what will be used to evaluate or grade each piece of writing.
Each time we write we should use the writing process. This process will help us write more effectively.
Brainstorming - Thinking of all of the things you could write about and then narrowing it down to one **Scoring Guide/Rubric- Use the scoring guide to see how your writing will be assessed. It will usually use a scale of 1-4. You should refer back to the scoring guide through out the whole writing process. Prewrite - Planning what you are going to write about. FOCUS on WHAT you will put in your writing. Rough Draft - Use your pre-write to guide you to compose the first draft of the essay/writing piece. FOCUS on HOW you will write your thoughts. Revise/Edit - Using the scoring guide go over the rough draft then look for changes you might make in usage, composition and written expression (how your paper is worded & how it sounds) Publish - Creating a final draft, making corrections that were noted on the rough draft. |

Creative Journal WritingYou will have opportunities to write creatively. The journal topics you will respond to will be graded (20pts) on the following three things:
1. Did you stick to the topic? 2. Is there a natural flow to your writing? 3. Does it make sense? These journal writings will be timed and will not be graded on "did you finish your thought process" but rather the overall writing process as outlined above. The journal prompts will be listed below so that if you are absent you will know what the topic was that we wrote about. The journal topics will be typed and include the proper heading: NAME DATE JOURNAL Topic 1: What is one thing you want to accomplish this year and how will you accomplish it? |
