Use the links below to explore the characteristics of fairytales and folktales. Create a graphic organizer to collect and record the information you research. You are looking to find out as much as you can about characteristics that fairytales and folktales have in most of their stories. These characteristics help us to define and recognize fairytales and folktalkes. Be ready to discuss the information that you collected in your graphic organizer and to share what are things you already knew and what are things were new information. Also, what did you find the most interesting?

Each of the Fairytale/Folktale links below has a host of stories to read and listen to. We will use the chart of fairytale/folktale characteristics we made during our research to analyze the stories we read. Along with the links below some examples of fairytales and folktales can be found in our literacy center in the classroom.

After analyzing stories for basic characteristics we will focus on identifying the narrative elements of a story as well as analyzing the characters (characterization) of the story and how the main events change or impact their character. We will use the graphic organizers and information below to help us organize our findings.
